Acerca de mí
I come from a Costa Rican family, born in New Jersey. I have dedicated my life to health and wellness; working as a Critical Care Registered Nurse around the country. Professionally, I work in acute care settings (hospitals), but I also enjoy picking up athletic hobbies that bring me outdoors. Ultimately, I enjoy moving my body, being outside and feeling free. Triathlon has given me a sense of freedom; being able to move on my feet, on wheels and in the water.
This race was advertised to me on instagram! I had already completed a 70.3 race with Ironman, a few marathons and half-marathons. I knew I would eventually complete a full-distance triathlon race; I just didn't expect it to be Patagonman EXTREME Triathlon! I registered seeking CHALLENGE and ADVENTURE.
Cómo descubrí Patagonman
Mi experiencia en Patagonman
I feel like everyone that has ever accepted the task of participating in Patagonman should be able to write a short novel on their experiences! I felt as though I lived an entire lifetime during my 15 hour race experience. Truly the "Patagonman experience" starts the INSTANT you decide to say YES to this incredible race. For me, it was exactly this way. From March 2024 until December 1, 2024, I lived and breathed the triathlete lifestyle. I arranged my life in a way to be able to put in the hours and hours of training. I will emphasize that this is NOT a Solo sport; without support...you will not get very far. I am so grateful to have an incredible smart, powerful and caring spouse; Isabo also accepted to be my support person for the race. She was with me throughout my training, got a full sense of my habits/tendencies/capabilities. This helped a lot during the actual event; she knew when to encourage me, when to push me, and when to redirect my thoughts. The Patagonman experience is unique for each athlete. I laughed, I cried, I was furious, I was ecstatic, I was determined, I made promises to God, I cursed at the wind (ruthless headwind), and I persevered. The views and emotions experienced in ONE RACE are enough to change your life and you will NEVER forget.
Un mensaje para futuros competidores
Start training as soon as possible. Be patient with yourself. Learn to balance HARD training days with easier training days. Rest is another discipline people tend to forget. Food is your best friend and you should ALWAYS be hydrating. If you accept the Patagonman experience into your life, prepare to be challenged, learn to navigate obstacles (physically and metaphorically), be flexible, HAVE FUN, thank God every single day for the BLESSING of being free to BREATHE and move your body. It is okay to take a break from training; balance. Give thanks for the opportunity to be ALIVE and HEALTHY. The spirit of Patagonia is powerful.
