Acerca de mí

I’m Vanessa Urrea-Victoria, a Colombian scientist (Ph.D.) and postdoctoral researcher, as well as a passionate athlete. After 12 years as a competitive finswimmer, I transitioned to triathlon, now competing as an age-group triathlete. In December 2024, I achieved the best record ever for a Colombian woman at Patagonman, one of the most extreme long-distance triathlons in the world.

With a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (Brazil), I am dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and fostering research in Colombia. Currently, I serve as a professor at the Universidad de los Andes and proudly represent my country as an Orquídea Minciencias researcher at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.

My journey is a testament to perseverance, passion, and resilience, proving that it is possible to excel in both science and sport. Whether in the laboratory or on the racecourse, I am driven by a deep commitment to pushing boundaries and inspiring others to reach their full potential.

I had heard about Patagonman for years, fascinated by its combination of immense physical challenges and breathtaking natural landscapes. It became a dream I was determined to pursue, not just for the personal challenge but to prove to myself and others that anything is possible with preparation, focus, and determination.

Cómo descubrí Patagonman

Mi experiencia en Patagonman

December 1, 2024, is a day I’ll never forget. Starting at dawn, jumping into the icy waters of the Aysén fjord, I swam 3 km to Puerto Chacabuco. From there, I cycled 175 km along the rugged Carretera Austral, battling brutal winds and steep climbs. The final challenge was a 43 km trail run, following dirt paths and gravel roads along the Ibáñez River, finishing at the magnificent Lake General Carrera.

Crossing the finish line after 13 hours and 11 minutes was a moment of pure triumph. Placing 6th among women and 32nd overall, I became the third Colombian finisher in this prestigious race, after the runner-up Alejandro Rivas and the red-haired Alejandro Mesa (17th position). The experience was both humbling and exhilarating, connecting me deeply with the raw beauty of Patagonia and the unyielding spirit of endurance athletes.

Un mensaje para futuros competidores

Take the leap! Patagonman is a life-changing adventure. Train thoroughly, prepare for all types of weather, and bring a team of friends to share the unforgettable journey. The combination of extreme challenge and natural wonder makes it an unparalleled experience.
