About Me
I'm from Nottingham in the UK, I love sports, culture and travel so Patagonman was an ideal trip. I got into endurance sports aged 34 after previously playing football (very badly). I started with running and like many people I kept looking for the next big challenge, first marathons, then triathlon, ultras, Ironman and finally extreme triathlon. I'm a back of the pack racer, but I love the challenge and experience.
I have always wanted to visit Patagonia after reading about a Welsh community that moved there and seeing pictures of the beauty. Then I read Lucy Gossages race report and saw Caroline Livesey's short film and decided that it was something I had to do.
How I Discovered Patagonman
My Patagonman Journey
Patagonman was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life, it's a really tough race, but the region is the most beautiful place I have ever visited, but what really made it was the people organising and supporting the race. They are wonderful people who care about the area, care about the competitors, it seemed like a real labour of love. It felt so special to be a part of the race.
A Message to Future Competitors
Firstly read the manual, then read it again.
Talk to athletes who have done it before.
Reccy the course before if you can.
Spend a few quid/dollars extra to get good warm swim kit, it's worth every penny.
The second half of the bike course is really tough, but don't give up because the last 10 miles on the bike is the most exhilarating descent you'll ever ride and the run course is just beautiful.
Wear sunscreen even if it's cold. The ozone layer is thinner and I got badly sunburnt even though it was around 15 degrees Celsius.
Finally, unless you're trying to win, just enjoy the course.
